If you wish to direct a domain name that you have to another domain name or subdomain, the best way to do that would be to use a CNAME record. By creating such a record, the domain address being forwarded loses all its records (A, MX, etc) and instead, it takes the A record of the Internet domain it is directed to. This way, if you use a web design service by some company that gives you a subdomain, you can use an actual domain name and not only will it be directed to the Internet site you have created, but it will also appear in the web browser address bar at all times. Alternative possible uses of a CNAME record are to forward all of the traffic from different subdomains to their main domain address, or to use the webmail service of your webhosting company by using webmail.your-doman.com, for instance. The latter will work only by setting up a CNAME record for a subdomain because this kind of a record set up for the main domain name renders it impossible to use e-mail addresses.

CNAME Records in Cloud Hosting

If you have a cloud hosting plan from our company and you wish to create a CNAME record, it'll take you just a few clicks to make it happen. You can access the DNS records for all domain addresses and subdomains hosted within your account from the Hepsia CP that comes with each and every plan and adding a new record is as simple as clicking on a button, picking out the type, that will be CNAME in this case, entering the actual record value and saving the change. If you've never added this kind of record before, you will find a Help section with a detailed video tutorial you can watch, or you can just contact us and we'll assist you with this task. If you have created a website via another provider, you want to use a private URL for your webmail or you want to designate a subdomain for use with the services of a different provider, for example Google Apps, all it takes is creating a CNAME record with a couple of mouse clicks inside your CP.

CNAME Records in Semi-dedicated Servers

If you have a semi-dedicated server through our company and you want to create a CNAME record, it will require only a couple of mouse clicks to complete this task. The plans are handled via our in-house built Hepsia hosting Control Panel in which you will discover a section committed to the DNS records of the domains and subdomains hosted inside the account. To create a CNAME record, you will only have to choose the record type and the hostname (domain or subdomain), type in where the latter is going to be redirected to and save the modification. The new record will be active almost immediately in our system and will propagate worldwide within a couple of hours. Modifying or deleting an existing CNAME record inside the account is just as easy and takes a click. In the event you experience any problems, you can go through our detailed help article, see the short video on the subject that we have added in the Control Panel, or you can just contact us for assistance.
